14 April 2025: In Dabat town and woreda, North Gonder zone, Amhara region, two doctors who worked at Dabat General Hospital were abducted from their homes at night by unidentified individuals. The perpetrators demanded a ransom for each doctor’s release. The doctors were released the following day after the ransom was paid, though the amount remains unknown. The doctors’ families organised a group of elders and sent them to negotiate with the hostage-takers, successfully securing the reimbursement of the ransom money. 05 March 2025: In Jiga town, Jabi Tehnan woreda, West Gojjam zone, Amhara region, recently opened schools were disrupted when the Arenzaw-Damot Brigade infiltrated the town and opened fire. 01 February 2025: In Bahir Dar city, Bahir Dar Special zone, Amhara region, a doctor and researcher at Bahir Dar University’s Tbebe Gion College of Medical Sciences was shot and killed while returning from his place of work to his home by unidentified perpetrators around 19:00. As reported on 27 July 2024: In the Olala forests, Awlala Refugee Camp, Amhara region, an armed group launched an attack on Sudanese refugees, firing into the air and inside the refugees’ huts, beating them with sticks and their weapons, and looting their belongings, which resulted in the injury of more than 15 refugees and the entry of seven women into states of fainting and slipping, one of whom was pregnant. 15 October 2022: In Shire town, Tigray region, an airstrike wounded two International Rescue Committee aid workers, one of them fatally. 10 December 2021: In Kombolcha town and district, South Wollo zone, Amhara region, suspected gunmen from the Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF) or an affiliated military force entered the Disaster Risk Management Committee compound and seized 18 WFP trucks, which they subsequently used in several locations for their own purposes. As reported on 11 September: MSF suspended all activities in the Amhara, Gambella and Somali regions, as well as in the west and northwest of Tigray region, to comply with a three-month suspension order from the Ethiopian Agency for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) on 30 July. 30 September 2021: Two days after the UN’s aid chief warned that northern Ethiopia is sliding into famine resulting from the Ethiopian Government blocking aid deliveries, the Foreign Ministry ordered the expulsion within 72 hours of seven senior UN officials — namely five members of OCHA, a representative of UNICEF and a team leader from OHCHR — tasked with coordinating aid activities and reporting on the humanitarian crisis in Tigray, accusing them of meddling in internal affairs, and declaring them persona non grata. This decision could affect aid distribution in the region, where displacement and humanitarian needs continue to rise. 27 August 2021: In Lay Gayint Woreda, South Gondar zone, Amhara region, the office and staff residency houses of a local charity organisation sponsored by USAID were looted by members of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). Among the looted items were 25 motorcycles and food supplies. Office items were also destroyed. The following Tuesday, the head of the USAID mission in Ethiopia also stated that several of the agency’s warehouses storing aid supplies had been looted by the TPLF, particularly in the Amhara region.
