25 April 2025: In Ugbowo neighbourhood, Benin city, Edo state, the University of Benin Teaching Hospital was stormed by an unspecified number of gunmen, killing a physiotherapist. 15 March 2025: In Kusada local government area, Katsina state, the Government Secondary School Yashe was stormed by unidentified men with machetes at 5 a.m, killing one security guard and injuring and hospitalising another. 15 August 2024: In the Otukpo area, Benue state, 19 medical and dental students, and a medical doctor were kidnapped on their way to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu city by unidentified gunmen at around 17:30. The students were from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos. 21 December 2023: In Otukpo town, Ogbadibo LGA, Benue state, a doctor and his son were among an unspecified number of travellers on board about six vehicles who were kidnapped by gunmen while en route to Enugu. As reported on 16 July 2023: In Ngwama village, a 53-year-old woman’s body was discovered near her farm. 17 March 2023: In Adunu community, Munya and Paikoro LGAs, Niger state,  gunmen killed a male medical practitioner during an assault on the Munya and Paikoro LGAs. More than 40 people, including women and children, were kidnapped. Ransoms ranging between NGN10,000 and NGN20,000 were demanded for the release of each victim. Source: Premium Times

21 November 2022: Along the Irele-Oke Ako Road, Ajoni LGA, Ekiti state, unidentified perpetrators stopped a moving car and kidnapped a secondary school principal, two teachers, and a nurse. The principal managed to escape whilst in captivity, whilst the other three were released upon paying a ransom on 23 November. As reported on 11 October 2021: In Bonta village, Konshinsha LGA, Benue state, the Bonta Health Centre was attacked and burnt down by Nigerian soldiers during a wider attack on the village. Patients and nursing mothers inside the maternity ward were forced to flee the clinic and three patients were killed during the attack. Source: Sahara Reporters

29 September 2021: In Babangida town, Tarmuwa LGA, Yobe state, food and medicine at an IDP camp was targeted in an attack on the town by ISWAP insurgents. Source: PR Nigeria

The Armed Forces of Nigeria had repelled insurgents the previous Sunday when fighters had attacked the town with anti-aircraft trucks and grenades. Similar attacks were reported in August 2021.

Armed groups often target food and medical supplies. Some observers believe that WFP food storage may attract such attacks.

The 2021 Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition (SHCC) report identified 43 incidents of violence against or obstruction of health care in Nigeria in 2020, compared to 19 such incidents in 2019. Health workers were kidnapped and health supplies looted.
